Samuel Hammond (1835-1896)

Art Collector of Boston, Massachusetts

He studied with James Abbott McNeill Whistler at Christ Church School in Pomfret, Connecticut. He maintained his friendship with Whistler long after they were pupils and collected several of Whistler's drawings, notably: An Officer attacked by Brigands; Chartly and Jola; A man in a turban smoking a long pipe; Sackcloth without and a good Sack within; May Morning Preparations; Old Casper; Sailing boat; What I Once Was; and, Cadets resting.
