Samuel Braman Sexton (1869-1903)

Samuel B. Sexton, of "Torham" Hyde Park, New York

He was born at Brooklyn but the following year his parents relocated to Hyde Park, where he grew up. In 1886, he entered Columbia Law School, but after just two years he was obliged to leave on account of his health. He spent the next two years travelling around Europe before returning to Hyde Park, during which time his uncle Hiram V. Braman had purchased the Drayton House on his behalf. From 1890, he was the new proprietor of the spectacular mansion and changed its name to "Torham". In 1893, at Grace Church, New York, he married Jean Hunter Denning, but his ill health continued to plague him and he died in 1903, at Augusta, Georgia, without children.
