Rowland Stebbins (1882-1948)
Theatrical Producer, of New York City; Hobe Sound, Florida; &, North Hatley, Quebec
He graduated from Columbia University and became a stockbroker in New York - a senior partner in de Coppet & Doremus - but he became better known as a theatrical producer under the name Laurence Rivers, Inc. He started producing plays during the 1920s, and in 1929 he became a full-time theatrical producer. He won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1930 with the play, The Green Pastures. and in the same year sold his seat on the New York Stock Exchange to his cousin, J. Randolph Grymes, Jr. He married Marion, daughter of Hart Lyman, Editor-in-Chief of the New York Tribune, and lived between 133 East 64th St., N.Y.C.; Hobe Sound, Florida; and North Hatley, Quebec.
