Rosalind Hicks (1919-2004)

Mrs. Rosalind Margaret Clarissa (Christie) Prichard, Hicks

She inherited most of her mother's £106,683 estate in 1976 and 36% of Agatha Christie Ltd. as well as the copyright to the play A Daughter’s a Daughter. She declined many biographies about her mother, only commissioning Janet Morgan to write an authorised biography in 1984. She became President of the Agatha Christie Society in 1993, naming David Suchet and Joan Hickson - her favorite actors to play the parts of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple - Vice Presidents of the company. During a TV interview in 2014, Suchet said ,"I never met Agatha, but the greatest compliment... she (Rosalind) actually said that famously her mother hated people playing Poirot. It never came up to expectations, but one morning she came up on the set and said, 'I have to tell you, I think my mother would have been very proud.'" Her first husband, Major Hubert de Burr Prichard, was killed at the Battle of Normandy in 1944. She was remarried in London in 1949 to Anthony Arthur Hicks and they lived at her mother's old home, "Greenway" in Devon. She had one son by her first marriage, James Prichard who is now CEO and Chairman of Agatha Christie Ltd. She donated Greenway to the National Trust in 2000.
