Roland Redmond (1845-1894)

Merchant & Game Preservationist, of 3 East 12th Street, New York City

He continued his father's importing firm, William Redmond & Son, up until 1887. As well as being an enthusiastic sportsman, he became prominently identified in the State of New York for the preservation and protection of game. He was a founding President of the Southside Sportsmen's Club and he was especially interested in the propagation of trout in the streams of Long Island. He was described as, "a man of high culture and refinement, and of a most lovable nature. Courteous and considerate to all, only those who were so fortunate as to have an intimate knowledge of his character could fully appreciate its kindliness, depth, and sincerity." He was survived by his wife, Helen, daughter of Edward Bulkeley and sister-in-law of Reginald Rives among others.
