Robert Livingston (1663-1725)

Robert Livingston "The Younger" or "The Nephew" Mayor of Albany, New York

He was a Scotsman, born at Rotterdam in Holland. He grew up in Edinburgh and in 1687 emigrated to America at the invitation of his uncle, Robert Livingston "The Elder" 1st Lord of the Manor of Livingston, New York. "The Nephew" was Deputy Town Clerk of Albany under his uncle (1699-1707); Alderman (1707-1710); and, 14th Mayor of Albany (1710-1719) under Governor Hunter. He sat in the New York House of Assembly (1711-1715); and, was one of the Commissioners for Indian Affairs. He was married in 1697 to Margarita, the daughter of Colonel Pieter Schuyler, 1st Mayor of Albany, New York. They were the parents of five children. Through his grand-daughter, Mrs Margaret (Beekman) Livingston, he is an ancestor of the Livingstons of Clermont Manor who on the male side are descended from his uncle. He died in 1725 at New York.
