Robert Howard (b.c.1800)

Robert Howard, Merchant, of Montreal

He was born at Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, the son of Robert Howard, Distiller, of Shinrone, King's Co., and his wife, Elizabeth Palmer, of Rockview, Co. Tipperary. In 1819, he left Ireland for Esquesing in Upper Canada with his future father-in-law, William Kent, and as a merchant he went into partnership with William Harte Thompson forming Howard & Thompson and settling permanently in Montreal. After his first wife died in 1830 he was married the following year (1831) at Liverpool to Elizabeth, the sixth daughter of Thomas Doolan, Esq., of Wingfield, Co. Tipperary.
