Richard Welsted (1806-1896)
J.P., of Ballywalter House, Castletownroche, Co. Cork
He was the uncle and namesake of the notorious New York gang leader "Boss" Richard Welsted Croker. In 1835, he married Honoria, daughter of Captain George Sandes (1794-1876), of Dunowen House, Clonakilty, Co. Cork. On his death in 1896, he was succeeded at Ballywalter by another nephew, Rev. Samuel Penrose-Welsted (b.1828) of Shandangan, by which time his estate encompassed 701-acres.
