Richard Tilghman (1672-1738)

Colonel The Hon. Richard Tilghman, of "The Hermitage" Chancellor of Maryland

He was born at "The Hermitage" in Queen Anne's County, Maryland. He represented Talbot County in the Legislature for Maryland (1698-1702). He was a Member of the Lord Proprietor's Council (1711-1738); and, Chancellor of Maryland, 1722. He advanced (and was later repaid) the funds to build the second church at Chester. In 1700, he married Anna Maria Lloyd and had nine children.
