Richard Cutler (1736-1810)
Richard Cutler, Goldsmith, of New Haven, Connecticut
He was born in Fairfield, Connecticut, and came to New Haven in about 1760. He was a goldsmith, and having favored the British cause during the Revolution, a guard was placed around his premises. In 1781, he made a fortuitous investment when he purchased a large lot on Chapel Street and built a block which became known as "Cutler's Block". After his death, it was divided between his seven children, notably Mrs Hunt who lived at the Arnold House, built by the notorious "Traitor" Benedict Arnold.
