Pierre-Gustave Joly (1798-1865)

Pierre-Gustave-Gaspard Joly, Seigneur de Lotbiniere, Quebec

He was born in Frauenfeld, Switzerland and was a merchant in his father's champagne business. He married a French-Canadian heiress and became an amateur Daguerreotypist, famous for being the first to photograph the Acropolis of Athens and some ancient Egyptian monuments. He was the father of Sir Henri-Gustave Joly de Lotbinière, Prime Minister of Quebec from 1878 to 1879.
