Philip Jacob Rhinelander (1686-1778)
of New Rochelle, Westchester Co., New York
He was born at Oberwesel on the Rhine River in Germany. He was a Huguenot and emigrated from Alsace after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes to New Rochelle, Westchester County, New York, acquiring significant amounts of land in Manhattan and around Yorkville which became the basis of the Rhinelander's wealth.
