Peter Vivian Daniel (1784-1860)

Lieutenant-Governor of Virginia & U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice

He was appointed to the United States Supreme Court where he upheld slavery and the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, including in the Dred Scott Decision of 1857 - widely considered the worst decision in the Supreme Court's history.
