Peter Jay Munro Van Cortlandt (1828-1897)
P.J.M. Van Cordlandt of "Hermitage" near Hunter's Island, New York
His ancestor was a sister of Chief Justice John Jay, and he was remembered as a sportsman of note - "a gentleman of the old school". He died at Spokane, Washington, due to exhaustion after an attack of gout, from which trouble he had suffered for thirty years.
