Peter DeLancey (1705-1770)

Member of the New York Assembly, of West Farms, Westchester Co., New York

He grew up in New York City and Westchester County. When his father died in 1730, he willed to Peter, "all my mills, mill houses, mill boat, farm and lands situate in Westchester County, upon the Bronx river" plus £3,000. He was married to Elizabeth Colden in 1737 and they had 11-children, many of whom had divided loyalties during the Revolution. Their children included Alice, who married Senator Ralph Izard, of Charleston, President Pro Tempore of the U.S. Senate; Colonel James DeLancey, Loyalist Commander known as the "Outlaw of the Bronx"; Susanna, married Thomas Henry Barclay, Speaker of the House of Assembly of Nova Scotia; and, Jane who married John Watts, Congressman and Speaker of the New York State Assembly.
