Major Peter Augustus Schermerhorn, of 34 Warren Street, New York

His widow moved to Lenox in the The Berkshires where she built Pinecroft. The celebrated authoress Edith (Jones) Wharton was the daughter of Peter's first cousin and she also built a house in Lenox, The Mount.
