Paul Lyman Hammond (1882-1976)
Realtor, Financier & Yachtsman, of 1 Sutton Place South, New York City
He was familiarly known as "Captain Hammond" as a yachtsman and having served in the Navy in both World Wars. He had a varied business career as a real‐estate broker, financier (he financed some of the largest buildings in Boston) and founder of a company specializing in the sales and mergers of industrial companies. In 1947, he was appointed special consultant on financial problems concerning the construction of the United Nations building. At his retirement in 1971, he headed Hammond, Kennedy & Co., 230 Park Avenue. Under his command, his yacht - Nina - won the Queen of Spain's Cup in the summer of 1928 - a 3,055‐mile race from New York to Santander, Spain, crossing the Atlantic in 24-days. He lived between 1 Sutton Place South, New York City and Syosset, Long Island. He died without issue.
