Ormond Gerald Smith (1860-1933)

of "Shoremond" Oyster Bay, L.I., New York; President of Street & Smith Publications

He was born in New York City and after graduating from Harvard University (1883) joined his father at Street & Smith Publications, of which he later became president. After WWI, he and his brother, George, guided the company through the dime novel era and the transition to the pulp-magazine era. He lived between New York City & "Shoremond" (see images), his estate on Center Island, L.I., designed by Hoppin & Koen c. 1910, while the interior - "one of her most complete and luxurious sets of interiors - was decorated by Elsie de Wolfe, a close friend of Sarah and Eleanor Hewitt, cousins of Mrs. Smith. In 1899, he married Grace Hewitt Pellett and they had one son.
