Nicholas Fish (1758-1833)
Lt.-Colonel Nicholas Fish, Adjutant-General of New York
He was a maternal grandson of Judge Joseph Sackett (1680-1755), of English Kills, Newtown, Long Island, New York. He fought in the American Revolution having been commissioned as a Lieutenant. In 1776, he was promoted to Major of the 2nd New York Regiment and soon afterwards was made Lt-Colonel. He fought at the Battles of Saratoga (1777) and Monmouth (1778), and was present at the Siege of Yorktown (1781) where he was a witness to the surrender of the British General Lord Cornwallis. In 1786, he was appointed Adjutant-General of the State of New York. He was an original member of the New York Society of the Cincinnati and served as its President (1797-1804).
