He was reputed to be worth some $2-million, chiefly inherited from his father-in-law who for 25-years had been President of the Life Office in Boston whose legal work he undertook. He was said to be a conveyancer of high reputation and very learned in Boston land-titles. His income was said to be between $20-30,000 a year.
