Nathan Dorsey (1731-1774)

of "Waverly" Baltimore County, Maryland

His father gave him 700-acres and seven slaves in 1756, including "all the stock of cattle, hoggs and sheep on the plantation where he now lives." His wife was a native of Baltimore County and after their marriage he began to develop a plantation at "Waverly" probably shortly after his father acquired the land. Once he had proved to his father that he could run the estate, his father turned over legal title to him. The assumption has always been that Nathan built the main block of "Waverly" circa 1756.
