Moreau Delano (d.1870)

Engineer, of Utica & New York City

He was the son of Obadiah and Asenath (Metcalf) Delano. He built parts of the Erie Canal and the Croton Aqueduct. Although his family who became well-known in New York were often referred to as cousins of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, there is no evidence to suggest that Moreau was even nearly related to the President's great-grandfather, Warren Delano, and in the history of the Delano family that includes notes on both families, Obadiah Delano's origins are stated as 'unknown'. He was married in 1823 at Philadelphia to Sarah Ann Abrams ('of Welsh extraction') and they had three children: (1) Caroline, died unmarried at 20 Fifth Avenue, New York City (2) Victor Delano, married and had children (3) Eugene Delano, banker of New York.
