Marsden J. Perry (1850-1935)

Banker & Art Collector, of New York, Providence, and Newport, R.I.

He was an industrialist with a deep interest in collecting items of cultural value, notably  furniture, porcelain, American Colonial art, and anything to do with Shakespeare. He purchased and restored the historic John Brown House in Providence in 1901, the same year that he married his wife. In 1907, he purchased Bleak House (see images) in Newport from R.R. Winans. Their son sold it after it was badly damaged in the Hurricane of 1938.
