Maj. Thomas Snowden (1751-1803)

of "Montpelier" Prince George's Co., Maryland

He served as Major of the 25th Battalion of Militia for Prince George's County during the Revolution. In 1783, after his marriage to Ann Ridgely, he built "Montpelier" (see images) so named for the plantation on which she grew up in Fulton. George Washington was among those who stayed here on his way to the Constitutional Convention in 1787. He and his wife were the parents of five children.
