Jabez Huntington (1767-1848)

of Norwich, Connecticut; Major in the 13th Infantry of the U.S. Army

He is pictured here (painted by Ralph Earl in 1796) as a Captain in the Connecticut Militia and, "the background seascape may indicate that he was part of a special detachment of the Militia known as the Naval Fusiliers, who were stationed along the New England coast." In 1799, he was appointed Major in the 13th Infantry of the U.S. Army which he resigned the following year (1800).
