Luther Hamilton Holton (1817-1880)

M.P., Canadian Minister of Finance & Governor of McGill University, Montreal

He came to Montreal when he was nine in 1826. Having lived for several years on St. Monique Street, in 1856 he built the Holton house at 315 Sherbrooke Street that from 1859 neighboured Kildonan Hall directly to its west. The house was eventually knocked down in 1912 when the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts was built in its place. He had six children of whom three (listed) survived to adulthood.
