William Clark (1770-1838)

of the Lewis & Clark Expedition; Governor of Missouri Territory

He took part in the famed Lewis & Clark Expedition of 1804–1806 from the Louisiana Purchase to the Pacific Ocean, the first major effort to explore and map much of what is now the Western United States and to assert American claims to the Pacific Northwest. He was married twice and had three children who survived to adulthood by his first wife, and one who survived to adulthood by his second wife.
