Livingston Rutherfurd (1861-1940)
Historian & Lawyer, of Warwick, New York; died unmarried
He was the author of “The Trial of John Peter Zenger,” the first case to come before the U.S. courts involving freedom of the press. Zenger was first represented by Rutherfurd's ancestor, James Alexander, and the greater part of the material for the book was taken from the family records belonging to Mr. Rutherfurd. He also wrote a history of the Rutherfurd family, entitled “Family Records and Events.”
