Leonard Jacob (1826-1908)
Dry Goods Merchant, of 614 Fifth Avenue, New York City & East Island, L.I.
He was born at Chale Abbey (see images) on the Isle of Wight, the ancestral home of the Jacob family since 1796. In 1876, he invested in the "Santa Marta" Ranch in Live Oak County, Texas, on which oil was discovered in 1928 when it was co-owned by his three sons, the senior partners of the Leonard Jacob Corporation.
