Laurie Hunter Brown (1879-1967)

Mr. Brown was born in Waco, the son of the late Dona Downs and Andrew Laurie Brown. His father came to Waco from Charlottesville, Virginia in 1872 and the Downs family came to Waco in the early 1850s. His father was the president of the Provident National East Bank at the time of his death in 1894.
He graduated from Waco High School and Toby's Business College. He was with the Provident National Bank until 1905, when he moved to Globe, Arizona, where he was in the real estate and insurance business. He married Miss Mary Thompson in 1907 in at Waco. His family returned to Waco in 1914 and he was executive secretary of the McLennan County Chapter of the American Red Cross during World War I. After the war, he recieved a citation from the American Red Cross, signed by President Woodrow Wilson in recognition of his services.
Mr. Brown was a public accountany and auditor with offices in the Provident Bank Building and the Service Mutual Building. He later moved his office to 612 North Valley Mills Drive. He retired in 1963. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
