Lancelot de Saumarez Duke (1896-1980)
Wing-Commander Lancelot de Saumarez Duke, D.F.C., of Victoria, British Columbia
He was born at Nuwara Eliya, Ceylon, and was educated in England at Monkton Combe School near Bath, and at University School in Victoria, Canada. In 1915, when Canada entered World War I, he enlisted with the 88th Battalion of the Victoria Fusiliers before transferring to the Royal Flying Corps with whom he served until the end of the war, winning the D.F.C. with 84th Squadron. He was married twice: (1) In 1922, to Armine, daughter of Frederick Barnard Pemberton of "Mountjoy" Victoria, British Columbia, and (2) Evelyn, eldest daughter of William Robinson MacInnes, of Montreal, Vice-President of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
