Julia Bernard Barnsley (1836-1899)

Mrs Julia (Barnsley) Baltzell, von Schwartz

She was, "beautiful, intelligent, and possessed of an iron-will". Her daughter recalled the tough life she led to maintain the plantation after the Civil War to one Margaret Mitchell, now famous as the author of Gone with the Wind. It is thought that Mitchell based the character 'Scarlet O'Hara' on Julia. She was married twice but had just one daughter, Mrs Addie Saylor.
