Joshua Fisher (1707-1783)

Shipping Merchant of Philadelphia & "The Cliffs" East Fairmount Park, Pennsylvania

He was a native of Lewes, Delaware, but he was not related to the Irish native Dr. Henry Fisher of Fisher's Paradise. Joshua became a prominent Philadelphia shipping merchant involved in the transatlantic trade and mapmaking for nautical charts. He made the first nautical chart of the Delaware River and Delaware Bay, and established the first merchant packet line between London and Philadelphia. He lived between his townhouse at  110 S. Front Street and his country home "The Cliffs" (see images) overlooking the Schuylkill River. He married Sarah Rowland and had six sons.
