Josephine (Hoey) Hone (1853-1905)

Mrs. Josephine (Hoey) Hone

She once enjoyed considerable social prominence. Before her marriage, she was one of the best-known actresses of her time in New York City. She married a grandson of the celebrated Mayor of New York, Philip Hone, but suffering a reversal of fortune later in life, she established herself in business first as a horticulturist, then as a dressmaker. In 1902, still retaining the esteem in which she was held in society, she took to the stage again with marked ability in "The Stubborness of Geraldine," but retired soon afterwards owing to ill-health. She was survived by two sons, Charles Jr. and Harold Hone.
