Joseph Stamper (1732-1785)
Joseph Stamper, Merchant, of Philadelphia
He was profitably involved in the West Indian rum trade with his brother-in-law, William Bingham. In 1755, he married Sarah, daughter of Joshua Maddox, Mayor of Philadelphia and one of the Justices of the Province of Pennsylvania. As a wedding present, his father built them a castellated mansion at the southeast corner of Pine and Third Streets. Their daughter, Sarah, married Colonel Thomas Lloyd Moore.
