Gen. Joseph Dwight (1703-1765)

Brigadier-General & Judge, of Great Barrington, Massachusetts

He graduated from Harvard (1722) and in 1734 became a member of the Honorable Artillery Company of Boston. He was promoted to Brigadier-General during the Siege of Louisburg (1745). He was Judge of the Court of Common Pleas (1753-61) for Hampshire County, Massachusetts, and Judge of Probate (1761-65) for Berkshire County. He lived at Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and was married twice. In 1726, he married Mary Pynchon and in 1752 he married Abigail Williams, widow of the Rev. John Sergeant. He had twelve children, ten of whom (listed) survived to adulthood.
