Joseph Blake (1663-1700)

Landgrave & Governor of South Carolina

He was a nephew of Governor John Archdale. In October of 1696, when Archdale left for England, he appointed Blake to serve as Deputy Governor. Blake served until 1697, when he purchased the share of Thomas Archdale and assumed the Governorship in right as one of the Lords Proprietors of the Carolinas. He had two children by his first wife.
