John Winthrop (1681-1747)

Fellow of the Royal Society, of Sydenham, Kent

He was a great-grandson of John Winthrop, Lord of the Manor of Groton, Suffolk, who became the 2nd Governor of Massachusetts and died at Boston. He was educated at Harvard (1700) and lived at New London, Connecticut, before returning to England where he was a Fellow of the Royal Society. He married a daughter of Joseph Dudley, 3rd Governor of Massachusetts and President of the Dominion of New England and they had nine children, seven of whom (listed) survived to adulthood.
