John Thompson Spencer (1846-1924)

John T. Spencer, of Philadelphia & "Althorpe" Newport, Rhode Island

He was a prominent lawyer and clubman who divided his time between 234 South 22nd Street, Philadelphia, and "Althorpe" at Newport, Rhode Island. He was President of the Newport Reading Room; Governor of Bailey's Beach and the Newport Casino; and, the founding President of the Newport Improvement Association dedicated to maintaining public spaces. He married Rebecca, daughter of John William Wallace, Recorder of the U.S. Supreme Court. They were the parents of two sons.
