John Ruckman Fell (1858-1895)

John R. Fell, Sr., of Philadelphia & "Camp Hill Hall" Fort Washington, PA

He was the only son of Philadelphia industrialist J. Gillingham Fell. John did not continue in the family business (A. Pardee & Co., that was instead continued by his brother-in-law, Dr. Herbert Marshall Howe) but nonetheless, when he died in 1895 he left his wife $35-million. In 1882, He built "Camp Hill Hall" that still stands at 709 Pennsylvania Avenue, Fort Washington. His wife, Sarah, was a daughter of the famous financier Anthony Joseph Drexel and they had four children (listed). After John's death, his widow married another eminent Philadelphian, Alexander Van Rensselaer.
