John Meredith Read (1869-1940)

Col. John Meredith Read III

He was born at Albany, New York. He raised a regiment of more than two thousand men to aid the United States in the liberation of Cuba in 1898. He was a member of several historical societies in Philadelphia and New York. In 1900, at Rome in Italy, he married Countess Alix de Foras, daughter of Count Amedé de Foras, of the Chateau de Thuyset. They were the parents of one son (listed).
