John McConnell (1835-1912)
Farmer of Muskoka, Ontario
He was illiterate and described as a labourer when he married his wife at Belfast in 1862. His wife (daughter of Alexander Wilson, Labourer) was then described as a weaver and was also illiterate. They emigrated to Canada in 1863 where they both became literate and John farmed at Muskoka. In 1874-75, he served as President of the Council of Monck Township and was afterwards the town's Collector of Taxes.
