John Johnston (1836-1904)
John Johnston, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin
He was born at his parents' farm at Auchnagatt in Aberdeenshire. Having received a good education at the University of Aberdeen, in 1856 he was invited out to Milwaukee by his first cousin, Alexander Mitchell, who would become Wisconsin's wealthiest man. Johnston served as Vice-President of the Wisconsin Marine & Fire Insurance Company under Mitchell. He paid for the construction of the first emergency hospital at Milwaukee. He was married twice and had three children.
