John Jacob Astor VI (1912-1992)

Jakey Astor, "The Titanic Baby"

He was born at the Astor mansion at 840 Fifth Avenue, New York City, though his father had gone down on the Titanic three months before he was born. He was brought up by his mother at the Astor's Newport home, Beechwood. He was educated at St. George's School in Middletown, Rhode Island, and afterwards graduated from Harvard University. On coming of age, he inherited $70 million from his father's $86 million estate. He was married four times and had two children. He married his fourth wife in 1956 and remained married to her until her death in 1989.
