John Howland Pell (1830-1882)

Captain in the U.S. Volunteers, of Yonkers, Westchester Co., New York

His record attaching him to this portrait at the Fort Ticonderoga Museum has him listed as the son of Stephen Pell (1814-1879) and Dorinda Eloise Townsend (1823-1893). This does not align with the genealogy supplied for Arthur Meredyth Burke's "Prominent Families of America". John Howland Pell, Captain in the U.S. Volunteers, married twice and had nine children who lived to adulthood.
