John Greenshields (1785-1869)

Merchant, of Quebec & Kerse House, Lanarkshire

He was a nephew of John Blackwood of Montreal and through his influence became a merchant at Quebec where he was in partnership with Frederick Grant from 1809. With the money he made there he bought the Kerse estate in 1821. He retired from Quebec in 1842 and in 1857 he knocked down the original house at Kerse to replace it with the Scots-Baronial house seen above after its completion in 1859.
