John Gardner Morey (d.1895)
Dr J. Gardner Morey, Dentist, of Montreal and New York City
He was, "distinguished in the dental profession in Montreal for many years". His wife, the strong-willed Elizabeth Beckett, was a daughter of Sir Walter Beckett and Mrs Mary Flood. They came to New York City and rented the historic Beekman mansion, Mount Pleasant. They took great pleasure in spending their own money restoring the place and recounting its history to those interested with "hearty, old fashioned hospitality and fresh good-will". They afterwards purchased a house on Coney Island but spent the rest of their lives standing up to the crime boss John "The Boss" McKane - see Mrs Morey's profile. Dr and Mrs Morey were survived by two daughters: Mrs Elizabeth Beckett Pine of 2 Willow Street, Brooklyn, and Mrs Theodore Hayes.
