John Eden (1789-1864)
Lt.-General John Eden C.B., Deputy Adjutant-General at Montreal
He served with the 22nd Light Dragoons and won a C.B. for his role in the capture of Java during the Mahratta War (1817-18). He later served as Deputy Adjutant-General to the British Forces in Quebec and afterwards in Scotland. He retired with the rank of Lieut.-General and was Colonel of the 34th Foot. At Montreal, he married Ann, only daughter of Sir John Caldwell 6th Bt., of Caldwell Manor, Quebec. They were the parents of four children who became the principal heirs of her childless brother.
