John Clews Jackson (1809-1889)
of Water Street, New York City; Importer & Dealer of Fine English Pottery
He was born in Staffordshire, England. He was a nephew of James Clews and on coming to America went directly against him in business. Despite an early failure, he died with a fortune of $1-million. He purchased the old Riker house at Newtown that he named "Oak Hill".
