John Bernard McEvers (1690-1759)

Textiles Merchant, of Dublin then New York

He was born at Dublin in Ireland. In New York, he married Catherine, daughter of Johannes and Catharine (Meyer) Van Horne. They were the parents seven children, five of whom lived to adulthood: (1) Captain John McEvers, of New York (2) Jacobus "The Merchant" McEvers, married Elizabeth Apthorp who after his death married Robert Bayard (3) Catherine, married Robert's elder brother, William Bayard (4) Mary, married Charles Ward Apthorp (5) Charles McEvers, married first Margaret Johnson, then Mary, sister of the Speaker of the New York Assembly, Gulian Verplanck.
